(Waldorf, Md., June 9, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 7-4 on Monday night in the final game of a five-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the comeback victory

Long Island grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning off Blue Crabs starter Brian Baker. The Ducks loaded the bases with one out before Joash Brodin hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Fehlandt Lentini from third. Southern Maryland evened the game at one in the fourth on a solo home run from Angel Sanchez off Ducks starter Shaun Garceau.

The Blue Crabs added three more runs in the fifth inning on a RBI double from Amadeo Zazueta and a two-run homer by Jermaine Mitchell to take a 4-1 lead. The Ducks responded back with two runs the sixth on a RBI single from Randy Ruiz and a run-scoring groundout off the bat of Brendan Harris to pull within one.

Long Island took the lead for good in the seventh thanks to a four-run effort. A bases loaded walk to Brodin, a wild pitch that scored Cody Puckett from third, a sac fly from Harris and a RBI single from Adam Bailey did the damage.

Garceau (5-1) earned the win, tossing six and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four. Baker did not factor into the decision, yielding three runs on eight hits in five and two-thirds innings. Eric Massingham (1-1) took the loss, surrendering four runs on two hits and three walks in two-thirds of an inning. Jon Meloan collected his second save with a perfect ninth inning.

Harris, Lentini and Bailey each recorded two hits in the ballgame, while Brodin pitched in with two RBI and two runs scored.

The Ducks return home on Wednesday night when they take on the cross-sound rival Bridgeport Bluefish in the opener of a three-game series. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Ducks Baseball Banks, courtesy of Municipal Credit Union.
