Long Island tops York with three-run 10th inning
(York, Penn., Sept. 12, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 5-3 in 10 innings on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Santander Stadium.
GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the series opening win
Long Island jumped out to a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third innings against Revolution starter Alain Quijano. RBI ground outs from Lew Ford and Brendan Harris accounted for the scoring. York pulled even with single runs in the fourth and sixth off Ducks starter John Brownell. Bryant Nelson’s RBI double and Travis Garcia’s RBI single did the damage.
It remained even at two until the top of the 10th inning when the Ducks struck for three runs off Ian Durham. RBI singles by Fehlandt Lentini and C.J. Retherford, along with a run-scoring error by Garcia, highlighted the inning. The Revs grabbed a run in the bottom of the frame on a RBI single by Nelson, but David Kopp stranded the tying runs on base to secure the win.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Brownell tossed seven innings, allowing two runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out four. Quijano pitched six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits with three strikeouts. Sergio Perez (1-1) earned the win with a scoreless ninth inning, stranding the winning run at third base. Durham (5-2) took the loss, yielding three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk in one inning. Kopp collected his seventh save despite allowing a run on two hits and a walk while striking out two in the 10th.
Five different Ducks had two hits in the game. Lentini and Dan Lyons each scored twice.
