(Central Islip, N.Y., July 30, 2026) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Staten Island FerryHawks 7-3 on Thursday night in the third game of a six-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.
Long Island jumped out in front 2-0 in the bottom half of the first inning thanks to a two-run single off the bat of Marcus Chiu against Staten Island starting pitcher Bernardo Flores. The FerryHawks got to within 2-1 in the second versus Ducks starter Ryan Cardona on an infield single by Osvaldo Abreu and a throwing error committed by Wilmer Difo.
The Flock took a 4-1 advantage in the second on Difo’s 342-foot two-run home run to left field. Long Island added a run in the third for a 5-1 cushion as Jorge Bonifacio crossed the plate on a double play after leading off the frame with a triple. The Ducks made it 6-1 in their favor in the fifth courtesy of Kole Kaler’s RBI double. The visitors scored a pair of runs in the sixth to get to within 6-3 in Nick Decker’s solo four-bagger to the opposite-field in left and Luis Garcia’s RBI base hit, but Long Island added a run in the bottom of the frame for a 7-3 cushion as Chiu belted a 350-foot solo tater to left.
Cardona (3-1) picked up the victory as the right-hander allowed an unearned run on three hits in five innings pitched, walking four and striking out five. Flores (0-4) was tagged with the loss, giving up five runs on five hits across two innings on the mound, walking and striking out three.
Difo had two hits, two RBIs, two runs scored and his team-leading 38th stolen base of the season. Chiu tallied a pair of hits, three RBIs and a run scored, while Kaler chipped in with two hits, an RBI, a run scored and a hit by pitch.
The Ducks and FerryHawks continue their six-game set on Friday evening. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It will be American Meat Night, with the first 1,000 fans receiving Ducks Cowbells, courtesy of Freedom Farms. It’s also a Tap Room Friday at the ballpark. Right-hander Drew VerHagen (0-0, 2.84) gets the start for the Ducks against FerryHawks righty Wilber Perez (0-1, 9.00).
