Blevins tosses 12th consecutive quality start in victory

(Sugar Land, Texas, Sept. 3, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters 3-2 in 10 innings on Wednesday night in the second game of a seven-game series at Constellation Field.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from Long Island’s sixth consecutive win

Long Island took a 1-0 lead in the first on Brendan Harris’ RBI ground out off Sugar Land starter Clint Everts. It stayed that way until the sixth when Harris scored on an error by Michael Rockett off the bat of Cody Puckett, stretching the lead to two.

The Skeeters rallied to tie the game in the eighth on a two-run home run to left field by Delwyn Young. However, the Ducks answered back in the 10th to take the lead for good. With two outs, C.J. Retherford and Puckett singled, Brandon Bantz drew a walk, and Joash Brodin was hit by a pitch to force home the winning run.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Bobby Blevins tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out four. Everts lasted six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Brett Lorin (2-2) picked up the win after pitching a scoreless ninth inning. Brian Broderick (0-2) took the loss, yielding a run on two hits, a walk and a hit batter in one inning. David Kopp earned his sixth save with a scoreless 10th inning.

Retherford and Adam Bailey each had two hits to pace Long Island’s offense.

The Ducks and Skeeters continue their seven-game set on Thursday night with a single admission doubleheader. Game time for the opener is slated for 7:05 p.m. EDT at Constellation Field, with game two starting approximately 30 minutes after the completion of game one.
