Larkins and the bullpen shut out Sugar Land in Texas

(Sugar Land, Texas, May 29, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters 1-0 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Constellation Field.

Long Island got all the offense it would need in the top of the fifth inning. Taylor Ard singled, advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches and scored on Robert Garcia’s RBI single to right field.

Ducks starter Matt Larkins (2-1) earned the victory, pitching five shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out two. Skeeters starter Dallas Beeler (1-1) suffered the hard-luck loss, yielding a run on four hits and a walk over six innings with nine strikeouts. Dennis O’Grady, Rob Rogers, Vinnie Pestano and Francisco Rodriguez each pitched a scoreless inning in relief to preserve the win, with Rodriguez collecting his fifth save of the year.

Ard led the Flock offensively with a pair of hits in his Ducks debut.

The Ducks and Skeeters continue their three-game set on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT from Constellation Field. Fans can follow all the action on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network.
