Long Island records 11 strikeouts in series finale
 

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 1, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 6-0 on Thursday night in the finale of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Sugar Land plated two runs in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kevin Ahrens and an RBI double from Travis Scott. A run in the fifth on Anthony Giansanti’s RBI single and another in the sixth on Scott’s solo homer to right increased the advantage to 4-0. A two-run single by Ahrens in the seventh rounded out the scoring.

Skeeters starter Bobby Blevins (4-1) earned the win with six scoreless innings, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out six. Henry Hirsch (0-1) took the loss for the Ducks, lasting five innings and giving up three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five.

The Ducks hit the road on Friday to begin a four-game series against the cross-sound rival Bridgeport Bluefish with a single admission doubleheader. Game time for the opener is slated for 5:12 p.m. from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, with game two scheduled to begin approximately 30 minutes after the completion of game one. Both contests are slated for seven innings. Fans can follow all the action online on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network. Right-hander Tim Melville (2-3, 3.60) gets the start for the Ducks in game one against Bluefish righty Cory Riordan (2-2, 3.94). Left-hander Rafael Perez (2-1, 3.73) takes the mound for Long Island in game two against Bridgeport righty Rainy Lara (3-1, 2.67).

Long Island returns home on Friday, June 9 to begin a three-game set with the Bluefish. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Ducks T-Shirts, courtesy of Petro Home Services. It’s also a Fowl Pole Friday at the Duck Pond, and if a select Ducks player hits a home run off of one of the foul poles during the game, one lucky fan will win $50,000. In addition, a Bluefish player will be selected as the Pizza Hut K-Man of the game.
