Washington, Puckett and Fields all homer to give Long Island seventh win in nine games

(Central Islip, N.Y., August 1, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 6-4 on Wednesday night in the finale of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

David Washington gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo home run to left field off Patriots starter Duane Below. Somerset evened the score in the fifth on a two-out RBI single to right by Yovan Gonzalez off Ducks starter Tyler Badamo.

Long Island answered back with a pair of two-run homers in the fifth and sixth to take a 5-1 lead. Cody Puckett’s blast in the fifth and Daniel Fields’ longball in the sixth did the damage. A run-scoring double play in the seventh brought the Patriots within three, but an RBI double by Lew Ford in the bottom of the frame pushed the Ducks advantage to 6-2.

Somerset rallied for two runs in the ninth on a sac fly to center by Craig Massey and an RBI single up the middle by Alfredo Rodriguez. However, Francisco Rodriguez induced a groundout from Endy Chavez to secure the three-game sweep for the Flock.

Badamo (5-6) earned the win, tossing six innings, allowing one unearned run on seven hits and no walks while striking out three. Below (6-3) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on 11 hits and a walk over six and one-third innings with three strikeouts. Rodriguez collected his 19th save of the season after recording the final out of the ballgame.

Fields led the Flock with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Ford, Jordany Valdespin and Travis Snider each added two hits.

The Ducks continue their homestand on Thursday night when they open a four-game series against the Road Warriors.
