Two-run eighth inning lifts Long Island in Bridgeport
(Bridgeport, Conn., July 28, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 5-4 on Monday night in the third game of a four-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

The Ducks took an early 1-0 lead on a two-out RBI single by Brandon Bantz in the first inning off Bluefish starter Dontrelle Willis. A run-scoring groundout to third off the bat of Fehlandt Lentini in the second doubled the lead to two.
Bridgeport got on the scoreboard in the third inning on a RBI triple by James Simmons off Ducks starter John Brownell. However, the Ducks got their two-run lead back in the fifth on a RBI double to right-center by Lentini.
Prentice Redman’s solo homer in the fifth and a fielding error by the Ducks in the seventh allowed the Bluefish to tie the game at three. The Ducks answered immediately in the eighth, as a sac fly to right by Bantz and a RBI double to right-center by Joash Brodin put the Flock back in front by two. A sac fly to right by Luis Rodriguez in the eighth trimmed the lead to one, but Bridgeport would get no closer.
Brownell (10-6) earned the win, tossing seven and one-third innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on 10 hits and three walks while striking out three. Willis (0-2) took the loss, surrendering five runs on nine hits and four walks with four strikeouts over seven and two-thirds innings. David Kopp earned his second save with a scoreless ninth.
Lentini, Bantz, Brodin and Sergio Miranda led the Flock with two hits apiece.
The Ducks and Bluefish wrap up their four-game set on Tuesday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Right-hander Bobby Blevins toes the rubber for the Ducks against Bluefish righty D.J. Mitchell. Long Island returns home on Saturday, August 2 to open a three-game series against the York Revolution. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05.
