(Waldorf, Md., June 6, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 5-1 on Sunday afternoon in the rubber game of a three-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.
The Blue Crabs struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-out RBI single to right field off Ducks starter Brendan Feldmann. It stayed that way until the seventh when a bases-clearing, three-run double off the bat of Hector Sanchez put the Ducks in front 3-1.
Ben Farias added to the lead in the ninth inning with a two-out, two-run single to left-center. The first hit and first two RBIs of his professional career increased the Duck advantage to 5-1.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Feldmann went five innings, allowing a run on five hits and three walks while striking out two. Austin Glorius also pitched five innings for the Blue Crabs, yielding just four hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Jose Cuas (2-0) earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out five. Pat Baker (1-1) took the loss, yielding three runs on three walks in one and one-third innings with three strikeouts.
Sanchez led the Flock offensively with two hits, three RBIs, a run and a walk. Rey Fuentes add two hits, a run and two stolen bases, while Johnni Turbo stole three bases.
