(Lancaster, Pa., Oct. 4, 2012) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 9-4 on Thursday night in Game Two of the Atlantic League Championship Series at Clipper Magazine Stadium. The best-of-five series is now tied at one game apiece.
GAME AUDIO: The Ducks score six runs in the ninth inning to win
The Ducks jumped on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first, courtesy of Brandon Sing’s RBI infield single off Barnstormers starter John Halama. It stayed that way until the fourth when Lancaster took a 3-1 lead on a two-run homer by Ryan Harvey and a solo blast by Travis Denker off Ducks starter Matt Way.
Long Island rallied to tie it with single runs in the fifth and sixth on a RBI fielder’s choice by Kraig Binick and a RBI single by Dan Lyons. However, a run-scoring single by Gilberto Mejia in the bottom of the sixth gave Lancaster the lead right back.
Tim Hamulack tried to close it out for the ‘Stormers in the ninth, but the Ducks scored six runs to take a 9-4 lead and put the game out of reach. A game-tying single by Sing, a go-ahead three-run double by Lyons, and RBI singles from Mitch Canham and Binick did the damage.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Way allowed four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in five and two-thirds innings, and Halama yielded three runs on six hits with three strikeouts in five and one-third innings. Jared Lansford (2-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief, and Hamulack (0-1) suffered the loss, yielding six runs on five thits in two-thirds of an inning.
Lyons led the Ducks with three hits and four RBI, while Sing and Ray Navarrete added two hits apiece.
