Long Island’s four-run second inning not enough in middle game of series
(Central Islip, N.Y., June 26, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the New Britain Bees 11-4 on Wednesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Long Island batted around in the second inning, plating four runs against Bees starter Rainy Lara. RBI singles by David Washington and Steve Lombardozzi, along with a two-run ground-rule double by Rey Fuentes, highlighted the inning. New Britain rallied to tie the game with a run in the fourth and three in the fifth off Ducks starter Joe Iorio. Bijan Rademacher’s run-scoring groundout and Darren Ford’s three-run home run to left-center did the damage.
The Bees took a 9-4 lead with a five-run sixth inning, highlighted by Logan Moore’s grand slam to right-center and Alejandro De Aza’s RBI double to left. A two-run eighth for New Britain on RBI singles by Jason Rogers and Jonathan Galvez rounded out the scoring.
Iorio did not factor into the decision but lasted five innings, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Lara (5-4) earned the win, tossing seven innings of four-run ball, yielding eight hits while striking out four. Mazzaro (2-4) suffered the loss, surrendering five runs on six hits in two-thirds of an inning.
Fuentes led the Flock with two doubles, two RBIs and a run, while L.J. Mazzilli and Ezequiel Carrera each added two hits.
