Six-run seventh and eighth inning double give Lancaster the win
(Lancaster, Penn., May 29, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 10-9 on Thursday night in the final game of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the series finale
Long Island put up a three-spot in the first to take an early lead against Barnstormers starter Cody Scarpetta. RBI singles by Joash Brodin and Brendan Harris, along with a bases loaded hit by pitch of Jan Vazquez, accounted for the damage. The Ducks doubled the lead to six with Adam Bailey’s solo homer in the third and Brodin’s two-run blast in the fourth.
Lancaster cut the lead in half in the fourth with three runs against Ducks starter Bobby Blevins. Blake Gailen’s solo homer and a RBI single by Greg Golson highlighted the inning. It stayed that way until the seventh when a six-run inning for the Barnstormers gave them a 9-6 lead.
The Ducks rallied back with three runs in the eighth to tie the game at nine. A two-out, two-run single by Lew Ford and an error by Austin Gallagher helped the Ducks pull even. However, a two-out RBI double to center by Yusuke Kajimoto in the eighth gave the ‘Stormers the lead for good.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Blevins allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts in six and one-third innings. Scarpetta gave up six runs on nine hits and two walks in four innings. Brodie Downs (2-1) collected the win after recording the final out in the eighth, and Jeremy Accardo (3-3) suffered the loss, yielding three runs on four hits in one and one-third innings. Jason Urquidez earned his first save with a scoreless ninth.
Ford and Fehlandt Lentini led the Ducks with three hits while Brodin added two hits, three RBI and two runs.
