Iorio Fires Six Scoreless Innings En Route To Second Win

(York, PA, June 11, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 6-0 on Friday evening in the opener of a three-game weekend series at PeoplesBank Park.

Long Island took a quick 2-0 advantage off Revolution losing pitcher Duke von Schamann (1-2) in the top of the second inning courtesy of an RBI single off the bat of Sal Giardina and a run-scoring fielder’s choice produced by Johnni Turbo. The Flock sent eight men to the plate in the fifth frame, scoring four more times to open up a 6-0 cushion, highlighted by a pair of doubles from Giardina and Charlie Tilson, with the former plating one and the latter driving in a pair.

The six-run outburst was more than enough for winning pitcher Joe Iorio (2-0), who tossed six innings of shutout baseball on just four hits allowed, striking out three in the process. The right-hander notched his second consecutive quality start, lowering his ERA to 1.69 on the young campaign. The bullpen trio of Chris Reed, Anderson DeLeon, and Anthony Rosati (making his professional baseball debut) did the rest, retiring nine of the 11 batters they faced.

Tilson, Giardina, and Hector Sanchez each had a pair of hits as Long Island won their season-best third consecutive game overall, and have now been victorious in five of their last six contests played. Photo provided courtesy of Bert Hindman.
