(Waldorf, Md., Aug. 1, 2012) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon in the third game of a four-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.
The Ducks took a first inning lead for the second consecutive game on Brandon Sing’s RBI single to right-center off Blue Crabs starter Nick Green. A solo home run to left by Jeremy Owens in the bottom of the frame off Ducks starter Mike Loree tied the game at one.
Long Island jumped back in front on a RBI double to left by Bryant Nelson in the fourth, but a three-run fifth inning put Southern Maryland ahead 4-2. A RBI double to left from Sergio Pedroza and a two-run homer to right by Matt Padgett did the damage. Sing cut the deficit to one with a mammoth solo blast to left in the sixth, his 15th homer of the year, but the Flock could not pull even.
Green (7-6) collected the win, tossing seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out three. Loree (4-7) suffered the loss despite striking out seven batters in seven and two-thirds innings, as he surrendered four runs on six hits and a walk.
Sing and Nelson led the Ducks offensively with two hits apiece.
The Ducks and Blue Crabs close out their series on Thursday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from Regency Furniture Stadium. Long Island returns home on Friday, August 3 to kick-off a nine-game homestand against the Bluefish. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05.
