Teams combine for 20 runs, 32 hits in middle game of three-game set

(York, Pa., June 1, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 12-8 on Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at PeoplesBank Park.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis’ RBI single to left field gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but an RBI single to left by Telvin Nash in the bottom of the frame tied the score at one. Long Island reclaimed the lead with a four-run second inning off Revolution starter Dan Minor. A leadoff solo home run to center by David Washington and a two-out, three-run homer to right by Steve Lombardozzi put Long Island ahead 5-1.
Another solo blast by Washington and a two-run homer to right-center by Daniel Fields in the third increased the advantage to 8-1. York closed to within 8-2 in the bottom of the third on Alexi Casilla’s solo homer to left off Ducks starter Sean Nolin. However, an RBI fielder’s choice by Lew Ford and an RBI single by Washington in the fourth pushed the lead up to 10-2.
The Revolution closed to within 10-8 thanks to a five-run sixth inning and another run in the seventh. A three-run triple by J.P. Sportman and a solo homer to right-center by Nash highlighted the comeback attempt. That was as close as York would come though, and RBIs in the eighth from Ford and Washington rounded the scoring on the night.
Nolin (5-0) picked up the win, tossing five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out four. Minor (2-3) took the loss, surrendering eight runs on 10 hits and a walk in two and two-thirds innings with two strikeouts. Vin Mazzaro and Josh Lueke each tossed a scoreless inning of relief for the Flock.
Every Ducks batter recorded at least one hit, and eight of the nine scored at least one run. Washington led the offense with four hits, four RBIs and two runs, finishing a triple shy of the cycle. Fields added three hits, two RBIs and two runs, ending a double shy of the cycle, while Lombardozzi collected three hits, three RBIs and three runs.
The Ducks and Revolution wrap up their three-game set on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from PeoplesBank Park. Left-hander Jake Fisher (2-3, 6.19) toes the rubber for the Ducks against Revolution righty Duke von Schamann (0-0, 2.45).
Long Island returns home on Friday, June 7, to begin a three-game weekend series against the High Point Rockers. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It will be a Flashback Friday at the ballpark!
