Long Island native Vega leads the way with three hits, four RBI

(Bridgeport, Conn., May 8, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 9-4 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

Anthony Vega’s RBI triple to right-center field in the second inning off of Bluefish starter R.J. Hively put the Ducks in front 1-0. Bridgeport took the lead in the fourth on a run-scoring fielder’s choice from Carlos Sosa and a RBI single by Luis Nunez off of Ducks starter Darin Downs.

Long Island took the lead back with four runs in the sixth. A fly ball to right by Mike Dowd was dropped, scoring Cody Puckett and Dan Lyons, and Fehlandt Lentini followed two batters later with a two-run single through the left side. Two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth put the game out of reach at 9-2. Vega’s two-run single, Lew Ford’s solo homer to right and a RBI double by Vega highlighted the scoring.

Downs (1-1) picked up the victory, pitching five innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two. Hively (0-2) took the loss, giving up five runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts in five and one-third innings.

Vega led the Flock with three hits and four RBI, finishing just a home run shy of the cycle. Puckett and Sean Burroughs each added two hits.

The Ducks return home on Tuesday to begin a three-game series against the Somerset Patriots. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive Dan Lyons 2015 Gold Glove Award Pins as part one of six in the 2016 collectors’ series. It’s also a Two-Fer Tuesday and Humana Senior Discount Tuesday at the ballpark.
