Dan Lyons collects six RBIs in doubleheader; Bennett Parry strikes out 11 in game two
(Central Islip, N.Y., May 17, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks swept a single admission doubleheader from the Road Warriors on Thursday night at Bethpage Ballpark, rallying for a 4-1 win in game one and earning a 9-1 victory in game two.
Both teams exchanged zeroes in game one until the top of the fourth inning when a two-out RBI single up the middle by Antonio Jimenez gave the Road Warriors a 1-0 lead. Long Island responded in the bottom of the sixth with four runs to take the lead. A three-run home run to left field by Dan Lyons and a two-out RBI double to left by David Washington did the damage.
Ducks starter Matt Larkins (1-0) earned the win, tossing six innings of one-run ball, allowing seven hits and no walks while striking out six. Road Warriors starter Giovanni Soto (0-1) suffered the loss despite taking a perfect game into the sixth, yielding four runs on three hits and a walk over five and two-thirds innings with seven strikeouts. Francisco Rodriguez collected his fourth save of the year with a scoreless seventh, striking out two.
Osvaldo Martinez gave the Road Warriors an early lead in game two with a leadoff solo homer to left. The Ducks answered with four runs in the bottom of the first on RBI singles by Travis Snider and Wilkin Castillo along with a two-run single from Lyons.
Long Island increased their lead to 9-1 with a five-run fourth inning. A mammoth solo homer to left by Robert Garcia, a two-run single to center by Washington, an RBI single to right by Castillo and a sac fly to right off the bat of Lyons highlighted the scoring.
Ducks starter Bennett Parry (2-0) picked up the win, pitching all seven innings and allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out 11 batters. Road Warriors starter Brandon Bargas (0-1) took the loss, surrendering seven runs (five earned) on nine hits and two walks over three and one-third innings.
