Bailey named Player of the Month; Blevins chosen as Pitcher of the Month

(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 5, 2014) – The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball announced on Friday that Long Island Ducks outfielder Adam Bailey has been named the league’s Player of the Month and Ducks pitcher Bobby Blevins has been named the league’s Pitcher of the Month for August. Bailey is the second Duck to win Player of the Month honors this season (Lew Ford, May). Blevins is the third consecutive Ducks pitcher to win Pitcher of the Month honors in 2014 (Shaun Garceau, June; Jared Lansford, July).

“Adam’s performance during the month was key to our success, as he continues to be a big bat in the middle of our lineup,” said Ducks manager Kevin Baez. “Bobby has been outstanding all season long, and we are happy to see him recognized for his outstanding performance in August.”

During the month, Bailey led all Atlantic League batters with 29 RBI and finished second in the league with six home runs. He batted .330 for the month, earning 35 hits in 106 at-bats, scored 17 runs and compiled seven doubles. In addition, the second-year Duck had a .415 on-base percentage and a .585 slugging percentage. Bailey finished the month with 12 multi-hit games as well.

Blevins was spectacular on the mound in August, leading all Atlantic League starters with a 1.10 ERA and 49 innings pitched. He posted a 4-0 record over six starts, three of which were complete games. During the month, he struck out 26 batters while walking only four and yielded just seven runs (six earned). Opponents batted .225 during the month against Blevins, who tossed at least seven innings in each outing.

Thanks to the efforts of Bailey and Blevins, the Ducks posted an 18-11 record during the month of August. Long Island offense batted a league-high .296 during the month, while the pitching staff posted a league-best 2.60 ERA. As of Friday, Bailey is batting .308 in 2014, good for fifth highest in the Atlantic League. He also is tied for third in the league with 18 homers and fourth with 83 RBI. Blevins has a 9-3 record with a 2.73 ERA, which ranks third-best in the Atlantic League. He is also second in innings pitched (171.1) and complete games (3) and sixth in strikeouts (103).
