Long Island blasts four more home runs en route to their twelfth straight win
(York, Pa., July 25, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 12-4 on Sunday afternoon at PeoplesBank Park to complete a three-game series sweep while giving them a perfect six victories in as many tries on their two-state road trip in the process.
Long Island made it 2-0 in the top half of the first inning against York starting pitcher Bruce Bell thanks to a booming two-run home run to left centerfield off the bat of Deibinson Romero. The Flock took a 6-0 advantage in the third frame with the two big hits produced by Lew Ford and Ryan Jackson as Ford tallied a run-scoring double and Jackson chipped in with an RBI base knock. The Ducks kept pouring it on in the fourth as they plated another pair of runs to take a commanding 8-0 lead as Steve Lombardozzi hustled down the line from third on a wild pitch while Romero laced a run-scoring double into the left field corner.
The power surged continued in the top of the eighth as Lombardozzi and Ford belted back- to- back home runs to put the visitors out in front 10-3 with Ford was greeted by his teammates in the third base dugout after tallying his first roundtripper of the campaign. Lombardozzi put the finishing touch on yet another big offensive day for Long Island as the infielder cracked his second solo tater in as may at-bats to right as the boys from Central Islip collected 17 hits in total in the matinee affair.
Ducks starting pitcher Joe Iorio (5-1) earned the win after giving up three runs on ten hits (one home run) in seven innings pitched, walking one while striking out three. Bell (0-3) was tagged with the loss, surrendering eight runs on eight hits (one home run) in just three and one-third innings of work, walking four and striking out one. Lombardozzi led the offensive attack with four hits and runs scored, while Romero had three hits and runs batted in along with crossing the plate a couple of times as the Flock opened up a seven-game lead over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs with eight games remaining for both ballclubs, cutting Long Island’s magic number down to just two to clinch the 2021 North Division First Half Championship.
Long Island returns home on Tuesday, July 27, to begin a three-game series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Ducks Baseball Caps, courtesy of Stony Brook Children’s. It’s also a Triple Play Tuesday! If the Ducks turn a triple play during the game, one lucky fan will win $25,000. Left-hander Darin Downs (1-1, 4.60 ERA) gets the nod for the Flock.
