Long Island hits a franchise record seven homers in opener, Peiffer wins first game with Flock in nightcap
(Lancaster, Pa., Sept. 12, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks took both games of a single admission doubleheader from the Lancaster Barnstormers Sunday at Clipper Magazine Stadium, with the Ducks defeating the Barnstormers 14-1 in the opener while taking the nightcap 4-2. Both games were seven-inning contests as the Flock collected a sweep of the four-game weekend series in the Keystone State.
Leading 1-0 in the top of the second, the visitors went out in front 4-0 versus Lancaster starting pitcher Dominic DiSabatino thanks to a solo home run from Hector Sanchez and a two-run blast by Vladimir Frias. Deibinson Romero’s grand slam gave Long Island a 10-0 advantage and the rout was on. Daniel Fields went yard in the fifth as did L.J. Mazzilli, with Ramon Flores answering the call as well in the sixth. In stepped Johnni Turbo in the same sixth frame, and his solo roundtripper to right was one of historic significance as Long Island set a single game franchise record with their seventh four-bagger of the contest, breaking the previous record of six home runs set on July 31, 2011 against the Road Warriors.
Long Island starting pitcher Darin Downs (4-4) went the distance for his first complete game of 2021, allowing just one run on five hits (one home run) in seven innings pitched, walking one while striking out five. DiSabatino (9-7) suffered the loss, surrendering 12 runs (ten earned) on 13 hits (five home runs) in five innings of work, walking four while striking out two and hitting a batter. Frias and Steve Lombardozzi led the offensive outburst with three hits apiece.
Already ahead 2-0 in game two, Long Island took a 3-0 edge off Barnstormers starter Brent Teller in the third as Lombardozzi plated Turbo with a run-scoring base knock. A Blake Gailen two-run homer against Ducks starter Scott Harkin in the fourth got the home team to within a run at 3-2, but the Flock would add an insurance run in the seventh to give the game its final score of 4-2. The bullpen duo of winning pitcher Dylan Peiffer (1-0) and Rob Griswold shut the door, with Peiffer winning his first game as a member of the Ducks by way of firing a pair of scoreless innings while Griswold closed things out for his fourth save in as many opportunities.
Harkin registered a no-decision, allowing two runs on four hits (one home run) in four innings on the bump, walking and striking out three while committing a balk. Teller (3-1) was tagged with the defeat, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits over five and one-third innings pitched, walking two, striking out four and tossing two wild pitches. Sal Giardina tallied three hits as the Flock won their ninth consecutive game overall.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. from Regency Furniture Stadium. Fans can follow all the action on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network.
