Offense lifts Flock to 13th win in June

(Bridgeport, Conn., June 14, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 9-3 on Sunday afternoon in the series finale of a four-game set at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

The Ducks quickly jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first against Bluefish starter Reinaldo Lopez. Lew Ford’s RBI single and a RBI double from Randy Ruiz gave the Ducks a two-run lead. Cody Puckett reached on an error by Bluefish third baseman Matt Burns that brought in Ford. Reegie Corona hit a two-run double and Mike Blanke followed up with a RBI single to right giving Long Island the six-run lead.

Bridgeport was held scoreless by Ducks starter Billy Buckner until the sixth, when Jobduan Morales plated a run on a ground out making it a 6-1 ballgame. The Ducks extended their lead to 9-1 in the ninth on Blanke’s three-run homer to left. The Bluefish tacked on two runs in the bottom of the inning on Joe Poletsky’s two-run single, but Matt Soren came in from the bullpen to wrap up the win.

Buckner (3-1) earned the win for the Ducks. The righty surrendered one run on four hits through six innings. He walked two and struck out seven. Lopez (0-2) suffered the loss for the Bluefish, yielding six runs (five earned) on nine hits and two walks with two strikeouts through four frames. Nick Struck pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the seventh for the Ducks. Mark Rogers allowed two runs on four hits through an inning and one-third before Soren was brought in to finish the game.

Every starter recorded at least one hit for the Ducks. Blanke led the way with four RBI. Puckett added three hits and two runs.

Long Island returns home this Tuesday to begin a three-game series with the Sugar Land Skeeters. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
