Garceau earns 10th win of the year with seven strong innings

(York, Penn., August 11, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 7-1 on Monday night in the final game of a three-game series at Santander Stadium.

Long Island grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on an opposite field two-run home run from Adam Bailey off Revolution starting pitcher Jorge Martinez. The Flock then doubled their lead in the top of the third on a Fehlandt Lentini solo home run and a Lew Ford RBI single.

The Ducks increased their lead to 6-0 in the fifth on a RBI double from Ford and a sacrifice fly from Bailey. York trimmed the deficit to five in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run from Chad Tracy off Ducks starting pitcher Shaun Garceau, but they would get no closer. Long Island capped the scoring at 7-1 in the eighth on a Jan Vazquez RBI single.

Garceau (10-3) earned the win, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out five. Martinez (5-7) took the loss, yielding six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks with one strikeout over four and one-third innings.

Ford led the Ducks with three hits and two runs batted in, while Bill Hall, Cody Puckett and Lentini each added two hits.

Long Island returns home on Tuesday to kick off a six-game homestand with the opener of a three-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive 15th Anniversary Season Commemorative Posters, courtesy of Newsday. Right-hander Mitch Talbot gets the start for the Ducks against Skeeters righty Clint Everts.
