Long Island launches five longballs in rout of Lancaster

(Lancaster, Penn., May 28, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 19-3 on Wednesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the offensive onslaught

The Ducks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first on Randy Ruiz’s grand slam down the left field line, his first home run as a Duck, off Barnstormers starter Brian Grening. Lew Ford doubled the lead in the fourth with a two-out grand slam to left-center, his second grand slam of the season.

Five more runs in the fifth increased the advantage to 13-0. Adam Bailey launched a three-run homer, and Ford added a two-run double to account for the damage. Ruiz’s second homer of the game, a solo shot in the sixth, made it 14-0.

Lancaster broke through for three against Ducks starter John Brownell in the sixth, but the Ducks responded with a three-spot in the eighth to go up 17-3. RBI singles from Keith Castillo, Cody Puckett and Ford highlighted the inning. Castillo’s two-run blast to right in the ninth rounded out the scoring.

Brownell (3-3) earned the win, tossing six innings, allowing three runs on six hits and six walks while striking out two. Grening (1-3) suffered the loss, surrendering eight runs on six hits and five walks in three and two-thirds innings.

Every Ducks batter reached base and scored a run in the game, as the Ducks set season-highs in runs, hits and homers in a single game. Ford and Ruiz led the offense with four hits apiece. Ford finished with seven RBI, one shy of the franchise record, while Ruiz had five RBI and four runs scored.

The Ducks and Barnstormers wrap up their three-game set on Thursday night. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Right-hander Bobby Blevins toes the rubber for the Ducks against Barnstormers righty Cody Scarpetta.
