Long Island’s 15 hits not enough in Lancaster

(Lancaster, Penn., Sept. 18, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 7-5 on Friday night in the second game of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The Barnstormers took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a RBI single by Anderson Feliz and a two-run double by Juan Apodaca off of Ducks starter John Brownell. The Ducks closed to within one on single runs in the fourth and fifth against Lancaster starter Madison Boer. A RBI double and a run-scoring infield single by Lew Ford did the damage.

In the bottom of the frame, Lancaster exploded for four runs with two outs to extend their advantage to 7-2. A two-run double by Brian Cavazos-Galvez, a RBI double by Luke Hughes and a RBI single by Feliz highlighted the inning. Long Island closed to within two on a two-run homer to left by Cody Puckett in the sixth and a run-scoring groundout by Ford in the seventh. However, they could not pull even.

Boer (4-3) picked up the victory, pitching six innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits and one walk while striking out four. Brownell (12-6) suffered the loss, surrendering seven runs on nine hits and three walks over four and two-thirds innings while striking out four. Marcus Walden collected his 15th save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

Every Duck had at least one hit in the game. Delta Cleary, Jr. led the Flock with three, while Puckett added two hits and two RBI and Ford drove in three runs.

Long Island and Lancaster continue their four-game set on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. from Clipper Magazine Stadium. Right-hander Bobby Blevins toes the rubber for the Ducks against Barnstormers righty Chad Beck. Fans can follow all of the action live on the Ducks’ flagship radio station, 103.9-FM LI News Radio. The Ducks will return home to host Games One and Two of the best-of-five Liberty Division Championship Series against the Somerset Patriots on Wednesday, September 23 and Thursday, September 24. Game time for both contests is slated for 6:35 p.m. The first 1,000 fans in attendance at each game will receive “Drive to the Title” Rally Towels, courtesy of News 12. Prior to each game, the Ducks will be hosting a food drive in conjunction with Island Harvest Food Bank. Fans are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items by dropping them off in the collection bins located on the plaza outside the ballpark.
