Washington hits team-leading 19th home run in defeat

(New Britain, Conn., Aug. 19, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the New Britain Bees 10-2 on Sunday evening in the finale of a three-game series at New Britain Stadium.

GAME VIDEO: Check out the highlights from the series finale.

The Bees struck first in the very first inning with a two-out two-run homer off the bat of Matt Tuiasosopo. An RBI single by James Skelton in the third inning, and a two-run homer from Joe Poletsky in the fourth put the Ducks in a 5-0 hole.

The Ducks cut into the lead in the top of the fifth, when David Washington sent a lead-off home run over the right-field wall. Jovan Rosa of the Bees matched Washington with a solo shot in the sixth to push the score to 6-1.

An RBI double by Taylor Ard in the eighth inning made the score 6-2, but that was as close as the Ducks would get. New Britain scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Jamar Walton’s two-run triple, and RBI singles by Jonathan Galvez and Vicente Conde did the damage.

Matt Larkins (6-4) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits over six innings, striking out five. Mark Hamburger (9-8) earned the win, pitching six innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and a walk, adding three punchouts. Jose Cuas struck out the side in order in an inning of relief.

Lew Ford paced the Flock with two hits.
