Barnstormers strike early and often to complete series sweep

(Lancaster, Pa., June 2, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 7-4 on Thursday night in the finale of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the series finale

Long Island struck right away for a run in the first inning on Tyler Colvin’s RBI double off Barnstormers starter Bryan Evans. Lancaster responded with three two-out runs in the bottom of the inning against Ducks starter Bobby Blevins. Josh Whitaker’s RBI double and Josh Bell’s two-run home run to right-center field did the damage.

Ruben Gotay closed the gap to 3-2 with an RBI single to left in the third, but Kevin Ahrens snuck a solo homer over the wall in right in the bottom of the inning to push Lancaster’s advantage back to up to two. Anthony Vega’s RBI single in the fourth brought the Ducks to within 4-3, but an RBI double by Ahrens and an RBI single by Caleb Gindl put the Barnstormers ahead 6-3.

Blake Tekotte launched a mammoth solo homer to right in the sixth. Ahrens followed with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame to round out the scoring.

Evans (3-2) collected the win, pitching six innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out nine. Blevins (1-3) took the loss, giving up six runs on 10 hits in four and one-third innings with one strikeout. Cory Burns earned his eighth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Gotay, Tekotte, Vega and Fehlandt Lentini each had two hits to pace the Flock.
