Long Island notches season-high sixth consecutive win
(Bridgeport, Conn, July 13, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 3-2 on Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. With the win, the Ducks have clinched the season series against the Bluefish and win the 2013 Ferry Cup Series. It marks the third team in the cup’s five-year history that the Ducks have won the Cup (2009, 2011).

Long Island opened the scoring with a three-run third inning. Bryant Nelson had a two-run single and Bill Hall drove in a run with a single. The Bluefish scored their first run in the fifth inning on Daniel Mayora’s RBI single. Bridgeport added another run in the seventh when Austin Krum reached on a fielder’s choice, but the Ducks bullpen held on to clinch the win.
Ducks starter Bill Murphy (1-10) recorded the win, throwing six innings of four-hit, one-run baseball with five strikeouts. Bridgeport starter Hunter Jones (3-8) suffered the loss, allowing three runs and six hits in eight innings. T.J. Hose pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up his first save of the season.
Nelson drove in two runs to pace the Ducks offense.
The Ducks wrap up their three-game series against Bridgeport on Sunday afternoon. First pitch from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard is scheduled for 1:05. Righty Bob Zimmermann gets the start for the Ducks while southpaw Miguel Martinez takes the ball for Bridgeport. Long Island returns home on Monday, July 15 to take on the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in the first game of a three-game set. It’s Camp Day with a special 11:05 a.m. first pitch.
