Long Island pitching stellar in victory

(York, Penn., Sept. 1, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 4-2 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

Andres Perez opened the scoring for York with a solo home run off Ducks starter Bill Murphy in the second inning. The Revs doubled their lead in the fourth with a Chad Tracy RBI single to center. Ray Navarrete hit a RBI single to left off York starter Will Savage in the sixth inning to put Long Island on the board.

Dan Lyons tied the game with a RBI single in the seventh inning, and Ducks took the lead on an error in the same frame. Adam Bailey smashed a solo homer to right in the eighth to tack on an insurance run for Long Island.

Murphy (4-14) picked up in the win, throwing six innings, allowing two runs on six hits without walking a batter. Savage (9-11) took the loss, letting up three runs (two earned) on seven hits in six and a third innings. Leo Rosales pitched a scoreless ninth to record his 18th save.

Bailey led the Ducks with three hits, and Navarrete and Lyons each added two.

The Ducks continue their six-game road trip on Tuesday with the opener of a three-game series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from Regency Furniture Stadium. Right-hander Shaun Garceau makes his Ducks debut on the hill, facing Southern Maryland southpaw Mike O’Connor. Long Island returns home on Friday, September 6 to open up a four-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05.
