Right-hander tosses five innings of one-run ball in first start of season
 

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 15, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Road Warriors 3-2 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

The Road Warriors opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI single by Ryde Rodriguez off Ducks starter Jake Dunning. The Ducks answered in the third, as Emilio Bonifacio’s run-scoring groundout evened the score at one. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Dan Lyons one inning later put Long Island in front, 2-1.

David Washington increased the lead to two in the seventh with a two-out RBI single to right. Anthony Ray’s run-scoring single the eighth closed the gap to 3-2. The Road Warriors then put two runners on with one out in the ninth, but a double play grounder by Edwin Gomez ended the ballgame.

Dunning (1-1) earned the win, tossing five innings of one-run ball, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out two. Villa (0-1) took the loss, yielding two runs on nine hits and two walks in five and one-third innings with five strikeouts. Francisco Rodriguez earned his third save as a Duck with a scoreless ninth.

Cody Puckett and Daniel Fields each had three hits to lead the Flock.

The Ducks and Road Warriors continue their three-game set on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
