New Britain took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and second inning off Ducks starter Henderson Alvarez. An RBI double by Craig Maddox and a run-scoring groundout off the bat of Yusuke Kajimoto did the damage.
Three unearned runs in the third on a two-out, three-run double from Jamar Walton extended the lead to five. The Bees rounded out their scoring with single runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth. A pair of solo homers by Conor Bierfeldt highlighted the scoring.
Long Island cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth when Marc Krauss launched a mammoth two-run home run to right field.
Bees starter Jonathan Pettibone did not factor into the decision but pitched four scoreless innings, yielding two hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Mike Hepple (2-0) collected the win, pitching a scoreless inning and two-thirds. Alvarez (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks in two innings.
Angelo Songco had two hits to pace the Flock.
