Five-run second inning, Parry’s 10-strikeout performance lead the way
(Central Islip, N.Y., June 27, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 6-4 on Wednesday night in the third game of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Long Island took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on doubles from Jordany Valdespin and Travis Snider. A five-run second inning off Revolution starter Joe Van Meter extended the lead to six. Taylor Ard’s solo home run to left-center field, RBI doubles by Anthony Vega and Snider, and RBI single by Valdespin and a run-scoring groundout from Emilio Bonifacio highlighted the inning.
It stayed that way until the sixth when York scored three runs off Ducks starter Bennett Parry to trim Long Island’s lead to 6-3. Luis Cruz’s RBI double, a sac fly to left by Ryan Dent and an RBI single by Nick King did the damage, but the Revs would get no closer.
Parry (5-0) earned the win, tossing six innings of three-run ball, allowing six hits and three walks while striking out 10 batters. Van Meter (2-3) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on 11 hits and a walk in four and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts. Francisco Rodriguez picked up his 12th save despite allowing a run on a hit and a walk in the ninth.
Ard and Vega each had two hits, an RBI and a run scored, while Valdespin had two hits, an RBI and two runs. Snider added two hits and two runs batted in.
