Patriots strike first in final series of first half

(Bridgewater, N.J., June 28, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 4-2 on Friday night in the first game of a four-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.

GAME AUDIO: Adam Bailey clubs a two-run home run

Somerset jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a run in the second and two in the third off Ducks starter Bill Murphy. A RBI bunt single by Dan Hennigan, a sac fly to right by Jeff Baisley and a RBI double to left-center by Cory Aldridge did the damage. Adam Bailey put the Ducks on the board in the fourth with a two-out, two-run homer to right-center off Patriots starter David Harden.

A RBI double to left by Jake Fox in the bottom of the fourth increased the Patriots lead to 4-2. That was enough for Harden (9-2) to earn the win, tossing five and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on nine hits with three strikeouts. Murphy (0-9) suffered the loss, yielding four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in five innings. Jon Hunton earned his 19th save with a scoreless ninth inning.

Bailey, Joash Brodin, Bryant Nelson and Ben Broussard each had two hits for the Flock.

The Ducks and Patriots continue their four-game set on Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from TD Bank Ballpark. Right-hander John Brownell toes the rubber for Long Island against Somerset southpaw Graham Taylor.
