Long Island clinches series win

(Waldorf, Md., Sept. 4, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 5-3 on Wednesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the victory

Southern Maryland opened the scoring with a Jose Julio-Ruiz sacrifice fly in the first inning off Ducks starter Bob Zimmermann. Long Island answered right back in the second on a Dan Lyons two-run single off Blue Crabs starter Ian Marshall.

The Ducks added to their lead with a Ralph Henriquez RBI double to right and a Kraig Binick RBI single to left in the third. Long Island tacked another run on with an Adam Bailey sacrifice fly in the fourth. The Blue Crabs scored two in the seventh, with one run scoring on an error, and the other on a double play groundout, but the Ducks bullpen would not allow Southern Maryland to get any closer.

Zimmerman (4-3) picked up the win in six innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on two hits. Marshall (11-8) took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in five innings. Erick Threets recorded his first save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.
