Ducks settle for series split with Patriots

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 22, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 7-3 on Thursday night in a rain-shortened series finale of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Edwin Espinal opened the scoring with a solo home run to left-center field in the top of the first inning off Ducks starter Brian Matusz. An RBI double by Justin Pacchioli along with an RBI single by Jimmy Paredes in the third extended the lead to three.

Back-to-back two-run frames in the fifth and sixth made it a 7-0 game. Paredes’ two-run double, a sac fly to center by Edwin Espinal and an RBI infield single by Mike Ohlman did the damage. Long Island rallied for three runs in the eighth on Deibinson Romero’s two-run double and Ramon Cabrera’s RBI single. However, the rains then came and ended the game early.

Patriots starter Rick Teasley (5-2) earned the win, tossing seven scoreless innings, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out three. Matusz (0-2) took the loss, conceding five runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks over five innings with five strikeouts.

D’Arby Myers and Rey Fuentes each had two hits to pace the Flock offensively.
