(Central Islip, N.Y., May 2, 2023) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Staten Island FerryHawks 13-4 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

Luis Guerrero put the Ducks in front 2-0 in the second inning with a two-run home run to left-center field off FerryHawks starter Ivan Pineyro. Staten Island tied the game at two in the fourth on a two-run double to left-center by Cristian Santana off Ducks starter Brett Kennedy.

The FerryHawks took a 4-2 lead in the fifth on an error that plated Ricardo Cespedes and an RBI single by Roldani Baldwin. However, a double-steal by Guerrero and Philip Caulfield along with an RBI single by Adeiny Hechavarria tied the game at four in the bottom of the frame.

Long Island broke the tie in the seventh when Caulfield scampered home from third on a wild pitch to go in front 5-4. An eight-run eighth for the Flock then blew the game open. Guerrero’s RBI double and two-run single, Caulfield’s RBI single, Hechavarria’s three-run homer and Joe DeCarlo’s RBI single did the damage.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Kennedy lasted five innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits while striking out nine. Pineyro lasted four innings, conceding two unearned runs on two hits and a walk. Jose Jose (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless seventh inning, yielding two hits while striking out one. Pedro Payano (0-1) took the loss, allowing a run on three walks in one inning of work.

Guerrero led the Flock offensively with three hits, five RBIs, three runs and a walk. Hechavarria added three hits, four RBIs, a run and a walk.
