Three-run frame erases comeback effort

Adam Bailey opened the scoring in the second inning with a mammoth solo homer to right off Patriots starter Erik Arnesen. The Patriots answered with three in the third off Ducks starter Bob Zimmermann on a RBI single by Yunesky Sanchez and a two-run double by Cory Aldridge.
Somerset took a 4-2 lead into the seventh, but a four-run inning put the Ducks on top by two. Bryant Nelson’s RBI infield single, Ryan Strieby’s two-run double to right-center and Bailey’s RBI single to left did the damage. However, three runs in the top of the eighth on Jonny Tucker’s RBI double and a two-run throwing error gave the Pats the lead back.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Zimmermann yielded four runs on six hits and seven walks in six innings, and Arnesen surrendered six runs on 11 hits with eight strikeouts in six and two-thirds innings. Jason Lowey (7-3) picked up the win after tossing a scoreless one-third of an inning, and Ian Snell (2-3) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs (one earned) on two hits in one inning. Jon Hunton earned his 32nd save with a perfect ninth.
Bailey, Bill Hall, Josh Barfield and Kraig Binick each had two hits to lead the Flock.
