Fun activities and first home spring training game highlight day’s festivities
(Central Islip, N.Y., April 15, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks held their Fifth Annual Fan Fest at Bethpage Ballpark on Saturday under sun-filled skies and warm temperatures. Fans were treated to a host of fun activities throughout the morning and afternoon, with exclusive events also held for VIP season ticket holders and Bethpage Federal Credit Union Ducks Kids Club members. The 2017 Ducks were also introduced to those in attendance for the first time this year, and fans were able to watch the team take batting practice and play an exhibition game.
The Long Island Ducks and the Bridgeport Bluefish played to a 1-1 tie in the team’s second game of the spring training schedule for 2017.
Bridgeport opened the scoring in the third inning on an RBI single to right field by Sean Burroughs. It stayed that way until the bottom of the sixth when Dan Lyons’ sacrifice fly to left scored Nolan Reimold to tie the game at one.
Neither side could push across the winning run over the final three innings. Ducks starter John Brownell pitched two scoreless innings, yielding three hits and a walk while striking out two. Bluefish starter Cory Riordan tossed three shutout innings, allowing two hits with two strikeouts. Six Ducks relief pitchers combined to allow one run on eight hits and one walk over seven innings while striking out seven.
Cody Puckett and Elmer Reyes each contributed two hits for the Flock.
The Ducks continue their exhibition schedule on Monday when they take on local amateurs, the Long Island Black Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 11:30 a.m. Tickets to the game are free for Ducks full season ticket holders, while a $5 donation to the QuackerJack Foundation will apply to the general public.
Long Island will begin the 2017 season on Thursday, April 20 when they open a four-game series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Game time is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. from Regency Furniture Stadium. Following a season-opening road trip, Opening Night at Bethpage Ballpark will take place on Friday, April 28 when the Ducks host the New Britain Bees at 6:35 p.m. Gates will open at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders), and the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Rich Hill Bobbleheads, courtesy of P.C.
