Ducks look to maintain lead in Ferry Cup Series
(Central Islip, N.Y., July 27, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks head out on the road this weekend, as they head across the Long Island sound to battle the rival Bridgeport Bluefish in a three-game series. Fans can now take advantage of a special offer and enjoy an exciting weekend of Atlantic League baseball.
To allow the fans easier, more affordable access to this unique rivalry, the Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Company will be offering the “Ferry Cup Package” for the weekend of July 28-30. This special package includes a walk-on round trip Ferry ticket, a ticket to the Ducks vs. Bluefish game at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard and $5 of “BB Bucks” (ballpark dollars) for use on merchandise, concessions or games at the ballpark. Fans can purchase the “Ferry Cup Package” for just $32 (adults), $27 (seniors) or $17 (children 12 and under). All children three and under are free. To take advantage of this offer or for more information, please contact the Port Jeff Ferry Tour Department at (631) 473-5138.
The Ducks and Bluefish have battled for the Ferry Cup since 2009, with the Ducks claiming the trophy five times (2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016). This season, the Ducks have a 6-4 lead in the series and have taken four of seven meetings at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. A three-game sweep would put Long Island two victories away from keeping the Cup on Long Island, with seven games remaining, all at Bethpage Ballpark.
Despite playing in different states, the Bluefish and Ducks are separated by just a 14-mile expanse of the Long Island Sound between Bridgeport and Port Jefferson. Rather than driving around Long Island and Connecticut, the two teams take the one-hour ferry ride across the Sound when visiting the other’s ballpark. This unique method of travel, as well as the annual battles between the two teams for Liberty Division supremacy, has made the cross-sound rivalry the fiercest and most hard-fought in the league. The Bridgeport and Port Jefferson Steamboat Company has been the exclusive sponsor of The Ferry Cup since its inception.
The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com.
