Lyons, Myers inked by Long Island
(Central Islip, N.Y., Jan. 16, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks today announced the signings of infielder Dan Lyons and outfielder Jon Myers. Lyons returns for his fourth season on Long Island while Myers begins first season with the Ducks and in the Atlantic League.
“We are excited to welcome our first additions to the 2014 roster,” says Ducks president/general manager Michael Pfaff. “Dan has been a key piece of our back-to-back championship runs while Jon brings versatility and power to our lineup.”
Lyons has spent the last three seasons with the Ducks, helping lead the Flock to three consecutive Atlantic League Championship Series appearances, including titles in 2012 and 2013. Last season, the 29-year-old played in 107 games and totaled 27 RBI, 45 runs, seven doubles and four triples. He then hit .286 in eight postseason games with one RBI and four runs.
The shortstop led Long Island to its first championship in eight years during the 2012 season and earned Atlantic League Championship Series MVP honors in the process. After totaling 56 RBI, 110 hits, 17 doubles and six triples during the regular season, he collected six RBI and nine runs during the playoffs, including a pair of game-winning hits in the Championship Series against Lancaster (Games Two and Five). In three seasons with Long Island, Lyons has compiled a .246 batting average with five homers, 123 RBI, 39 doubles and 14 triples in 320 games. The Minnesota native was originally drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 14th round of the 2007 amateur draft.
Myers spent the past two seasons with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Independent Frontier League. In 2013, he led the league with 25 home runs, tied for sixth with 64 RBI and tied for seventh with 25 doubles, earning a spot in the Frontier League All-Star Game. The lefty hitter also posted a .283 batting average, 56 runs and 102 hits in 95 games. During the 2012 campaign, he tied for fourth in the league with 20 homers while adding 57 RBI, 64 runs and 24 doubles in 95 games, a franchise record.
The Missouri native began his professional baseball career in 2011 when he was signed as a free agent by the Miami Marlins. Over 29 games in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League, he batted .256 with one homer, 11 RBI and nine runs. Prior to joining the Marlins, he played three seasons at Saint Louis University where he compiled a .333 average, 23 homers, 117 RBI, 94 runs and 33 doubles in 130 games. Myers also earned all-Atlantic 10 honors and a degree in Business Administration while at Saint Louis.
