Southpaw tosses four strong innings to lead Flock during Fan Fest

(Central Islip, N.Y., April 21, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks celebrated their Sixth Annual Fan Fest at Bethpage Ballpark with a 6-2 spring training victory over the New Britain Bees on Saturday afternoon.

The Bees scratched across the game’s opening run when Darrell Ceciliani scored on a wild pitch in the first inning. The Ducks answered with two runs in the bottom of the first on Lew Ford’s RBI single and David Washington’s sacrifice fly. Tyler Holt tripled and then scored on a wild pitch in the third inning to extend Long Island’s lead to 3-1.

New Britain closed to within a run in the seventh on Ozney Guillen’s RBI double to right-center. However, Max Almonte retired the next three hitters to keep the Ducks on top. A three-run bottom of the seventh for Long Island put the game out of reach. An RBI single by Alec Sole, a bases loaded hit by pitch of Robert Garcia and a bases loaded walk to Washington did the damage.

Jake Fisher started for the Ducks and threw four strong innings, yielding just one run on two hits while striking out three. Rainy Lara took the loss while starting for the Bees, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks over three innings, striking out two. Matt Marsh, Jason Creasy, Carlos Pimentel and Jake Dunning each threw a scoreless inning of relief.

Holt had two hits and two runs scored to lead the Flock offensively.

The Ducks continue their spring training schedule on Monday afternoon when they face local amateurs, the Long Island Black Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Bethpage Ballpark. Admission to the game will be free for Ducks season ticket holders, while a $5 donation to the QuackerJack Foundation will apply for the general public.

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com.
