Southpaw tosses seven innings of one-run ball in second start with Ducks

(Lancaster, Pa., Sept. 14, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 4-3 on Thursday night in the finale of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

GAME VIDEO: Highlights from the series finale

Long Island jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning against Barnstormers starter Rommie Lewis. Following a pair of singles to open the inning, Ruben Gotay delivered a two-out RBI single to center field, and Angelo Songco followed with a two-run single to right.

Lancaster plated a run in the second on a two-out RBI single right by Steve Clevenger off Ducks starter Jake Fisher, closing the gap to 3-1. It stayed that way until the bottom of the eighth when the Barnstormers tied the game against the Ducks bullpen. An RBI single to center by Lance Zawadzki and a two-out RBI infield single by Cole Garner did the damage.

The Barnstormers then rallied to win the game with two outs in the ninth inning. A single by Clevenger, a double by Josh Bell and an intentional walk to Zawadzki set the stage for Darian Sandford, who won it with a two-strike single to center.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Fisher pitched seven innings, allowing just one run, four hits and one walk while striking out three batters. He also retired 13 of the final 14 batters he faced. Lewis pitched six and two-thirds innings, yielding three runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Anthony Carter (5-3) got the win after pitching a scoreless ninth, and Amalio Diaz (5-6) took the loss, surrendering a run on three hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.

Giovanny Alfonzo and Dan Lyons each had two hits to lead the Flock.

The Ducks continue their final road trip of the regular season on Friday night when they open a three-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. CDT from Constellation Field. Fans can follow all the action on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network. Live streaming HD video and audio will be available via BoxCast on the Ducks’ official Facebook page, YouTube channel and at LIDucks.com. Right-hander Matt Marsh (0-0, 0.67) gets the start for the Ducks against Skeeters righty Patrick Mincey (0-1, 1.80).
