Southpaw tosses eight shutout innings and strikes out 10

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 12, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters 6-0 on Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Jake Fisher (2-0) was the story on the mound, as he earned his second win over the season. The left-hander fired eight scoreless innings, allowing just six hits, only one of which was an extra-base hit. He did not walk a batter and struck out 10, his most in a single game as a member of the Ducks (regular season or playoffs). He threw 103 pitches in the outing, 75 of which were strikes.

The Ducks gave Fisher an early 2-0 lead in the third inning on Jordany Valdespin’s RBI single and a double play ball that scored Alec Sole. It stayed that way until the seventh when four more runs came across for Long Island. A two-run single to center field by Emilio Bonifacio and a two-run single to left by Lew Ford did the damage.

Skeeters starter Tyler Badamo (1-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over four and two-thirds innings while striking out three. Matt Marsh pitched the final inning for the Ducks, striking out the side.

Valdespin had two hits, an RBI and a run to lead the Flock, while Sole and Wilkin Castillo each scored twice.
