Parry strikes out 12 as Ducks top Blue Crabs for fourth straight win

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 12, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 7-2 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Long Island built a 2-0 lead with single runs in the second and third inning off Blue Crabs starter Drake Britton. David Washington’s solo home run to left-center field and Emilio Bonifacio’s sacrifice fly to right accounted for the scoring. Southern Maryland evened the game with single runs in the fourth and fifth off Ducks starter Bennett Parry. Angelo Songco’s RBI double and Teodoro Martinez’ RBI single made it a 2-2 ballgame.

The Ducks answered right back with a five-run fifth inning to take the lead for good. RBI singles to center by Jordany Valdespin and Travis Snider, a sac fly to center by Bonifacio and a two-run home run to left-center by Lew Ford did the damage.

Parry (3-0) earned the win, tossing seven innings of two-run ball, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out 12 batters. Britton (2-3) suffered the loss, surrendering seven runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings with three strikeouts. Ashur Tolliver and Jake Dunning each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Flock.

Valdespin led the Ducks with three hits, an RBI and two runs. Ramon Cabrera chipped in as well with two hits.
