Ducks earn sixth consecutive series victory

(Camden, N.J., July 24, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks 7-6 on Wednesday morning in the final game of a three-game series at Campbell’s Field.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the series-clinching win

Both teams pushed across a run in the opening inning. Bill Hall had a RBI infield single off Camden starter Scott Gorgen, and Raul Padron had a run-scoring groundout off Ducks starter Bob Zimmermann. Johnny Drennen’s RBI single and Billy Rice’s RBI triple in the fourth put the Riversharks on top 3-1.

It stayed that way until the seventh inning when the Ducks exploded for five runs to take a 6-3 lead. RBI singles by Dan Lyons and Bryant Nelson along with a mammoth three-run homer to left-center by Hall did the damage. Joash Brodin’s RBI single in the eighth inning stretched the lead to four. A run in the eighth and two more in the ninth for the Riversharks trimmed the lead to one, but Jared Lansford stranded the tying run at second base to end the game.

Zimmermann (2-2) earned the win, tossing six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out five. Armando Gabino (2-7) took the loss, yielding five runs on five hits and a walk in one-third of an inning. Gorgen took a no-decision after allowing just one run on three hits and six walks in six innings. Lansford earned his sixth save despite allowing two runs on three hits in the ninth.

Hall led the Ducks with two hits and four RBI while Brodin, Nelson, P.J Phillips and Ramon Castro each added two hits.

The Ducks continue their road trip in Bridgeport on Thursday when they open a four-game series against the cross-sound rival Bluefish. First pitch from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard is set for 7:05 p.m. MLB veteran Dontrelle Willis gets the start for the Ducks against Bridgeport southpaw Miguel Martinez. Fans can follow all the action live online, with streaming audio available on the Ducks official YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/ducksbaseball.
