Ducks offense quieted in final contest of seven-game road trip
(Waldorf, Md., August 30, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in the final game of a four-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Southern Maryland jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first, when Zach Wilson hit a two-run double to left off Ducks starter Bruce Kern. The Blue Crabs added another run in the sixth on Grant Zawadzki’s RBI double.
The Ducks got on the scoreboard in the seventh. Nelfi Zapata’s RBI double off Southern Maryland reliever Orlando Santos into the left field corner made it a 3-1 ballgame. The Blue Crabs got the run back in the eighth on a run-scoring double play ball hit by Craig Maddox against Ducks reliever Patrick Crider. Southern Maryland reliever Cody Eppley finished the game in the ninth with a 1-2-3 inning.
Kern (7-5) suffered the loss. The starter allowed three runs on six hits in six innings while walking one and striking out three. Grening (4-8) picked up the win, not allowing a run on five hits in five and two-thirds innings. He walked none and struck out four. Eppley earned his fifth save in the final frame. J.C. Romero struck out the side for Long Island in the seventh.
Zapata finished with a double and one RBI for the Ducks. Delta Cleary, Jr. had a pair of hits in the contest as well.
The Ducks now return home to begin a three-game series with the Bridgeport Bluefish on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It’s the 10th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night at the ballpark, presented by 1st Equity/PinkTie.org. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Commemorative Pink T-Shirts, and following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Pyrotecnico Fireworks Extravaganza.
