Ducks pick up 13 hits but drop second straight in Bridgeport

(Bridgeport, Conn., August 25, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish 6-2 on Tuesday night in the second game of a three-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

The Bluefish got the scoring started in the opening frame on Welington Dotel’s RBI single to center off Ducks starter Bruce Kern. One inning later, Bridgeport made it a 4-0 ballgame. Bryan Sabatella’s two-run triple and a run-scoring error made by Dan Lyons accounted for the runs.

Long Island put up one run on Mike Blanke’s solo homer in the fourth off of Bluefish starter Cory Riordan. The Bluefish got the run back in the fifth with a Jobduan Morales RBI single. Blanke brought in the second Ducks run on a RBI infield single in the eighth, but Bridgeport responded with a RBI single of their own from Andres Rodriguez in the bottom of the frame to make it 6-2. The Ducks could not respond.

Kern (7-4) suffered the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out six. Riordan (4-3) picked up the win for Bridgeport, throwing eight innings and allowing both Long Island runs on 12 hits while walking one and striking out four. Patrick Mincey threw a scoreless ninth to complete the win for the Bluefish.

Blanke finished with three hits and two RBI with one run scored. Randy Ruiz also had three hits, including a pair of doubles and one run scored.

Long Island completes their three-game series against the Bridgeport Bluefish on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The Ducks will return home on Tuesday, September 1 to begin a three-game series with the Bluefish. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders.
