Ducks rally with two outs in 14th to tie game, do so again in 15th to win

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 3, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the New Britain Bees 4-2 in 15 innings on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

The Ducks took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Taylor Ard’s solo home run over the left field wall. The Bees pulled even in the top of the seventh on Ozney Guillen’s two-out RBI single to right-center.

It remained 1-1 until the top of the 14th inning when Guillen doubled to right field, advanced to third on an error and scored on another error to give New Britain the lead. However, with two outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the inning, David Washington doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Daniel Fields’ RBI single to right.

Long Island rallied again with two outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the 15th to win it. Cody Puckett singled to left, and Lew Ford followed with a two-run homer over the left field wall to end the 4-hour, 26-minute game.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Ducks starter Jair Jurrjens pitched six innings of shutout baseball, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out five. Bees starter Andy Van Hekken also threw six innings, yielding a run on five hits with six strikeouts. John Brownell (3-4) earned the win with six innings of relief, allowing just one unearned run on three hits and five walks while striking out three. Josh Outman (0-1) took the loss, surrendering two runs on two hits in one inning of relief.

Ford, Emilio Bonifacio and Ramon Cabrera each had two hits to pace the Flock.

The Ducks continue their homestand on Monday night when they open up a three-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
