Ducks hang out with second essay contest winner of year

(Hicksville, N.Y., Jan. 31, 2014) – On Friday, the Long Island Ducks enjoyed some time in the afternoon with Jasmine Roldan and her classmates at Fork Lane School. Jasmine was the second of four winners in the annual TD Bank “Take a Duck to Class” essay contest. Thanks to her outstanding essay, she received a special visit from TD Bank, QuackerJack and the manager of the back-to-back Atlantic League champion Ducks, Kevin Baez.

The assembly kicked off in the cafeteria with school principal, Mr. Scarino, addressing the students and congratulating Jasmine. Eric Fishon, TD Bank’s Vice President of US Field Marketing and Xia Leto, Store Manager of TD Bank in Hicksville, then presented her with a $50 Visa gift card for being one of the winners of the contest. Jasmine followed by reading her essay aloud to two of the third grade classes and received a round of applause for her great work. QuackerJack then was introduced to the students, and Kevin spoke about the importance of hard work and dedication in school and took various questions from those in attendance.

Following Kevin’s speech, Jasmine posed for pictures with her family members, teachers, QuackerJack and Kevin and was even interviewed by some local media members. Each of her classmates then received a gift bag full of goodies, courtesy of TD Bank, and posed for a class picture with them. Finally, the class then had a private autograph session with the lovable mascot and Ducks manager.

Contestants were able to pick up applications from local TD Bank locations this fall and submit an essay of 250 words or less on “Why my community is important to me.” Out of thousands of essays received from all over Long Island, four winners were selected. Each winner receives a visit from a member of the Ducks and Long Island’s Best Mascot, QuackerJack, along with a Visa gift card from TD Bank.
