Washington goes deep twice while Fields and Mazzilli go yard as well

(New Britain, Conn., June 5, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the New Britain Bees 5-2 on Wednesday night in the third game of a four-game series at New Britain Stadium.

The Ducks took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Daniel Fields’ leadoff solo home run to right-center field off Bees starter Rainy Lara. David Washington’s two-out, two-run blast to center in the fourth increased the advantage to three.

The longballs kept coming in the sixth, as L.J. Mazzilli swatted a one-out solo homer to left-center to make it a 4-0 ballgame. New Britain plated two in the bottom of the frame on a two-out, two-run single to right by Alejandro De Aza off Ducks starter Joe Iorio. However, Washington’s second homer of the night, a leadoff solo blast to right in the seventh, rounded out the scoring.

Iorio (2-0) earned the win, tossing six innings of two-run ball, allowing five hits and no walks while striking out three. Lara (4-2) suffered the loss, surrendering five runs on five hits and two walks over six and one-third innings with one strikeout. Enrique Burgos pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out two, to earn his fourth save of the season.

Washington led the Flock offensively with two homers, three RBIs and two runs, while Fields added two hits and a walk.
