Righty twirls complete game shutout to win third consecutive start

(Sugar Land, Texas, May 25, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks shut out the Sugar Land Skeeters 5-0 on Sunday afternoon in the third game of a four-game series at Constellation Field.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the shutout victory

The Ducks jumped on the scoreboard for two runs in the first inning. A wild pitch by Skeeters starter Steve Hammond scored Fehlandt Lentini, and a fielding error by Brandon Wood scored Cody Puckett. The lead was doubled to four in the third inning when Lew Ford and Joash Brodin scored on another error by Wood. Ford added a solo homer to left-center in the ninth, tying him with Adam Bailey for the team-lead with five, to cap the scoring.

That was plenty of offense for Shaun Garceau, who went the distance for a complete game shutout. The righty allowed just five hits and three walks while striking out six and threw 131 pitches, 88 of which were for strikes. Hammond (1-4) took the loss, surrendering four runs (three earned) on five hits and five walks in five innings.

Lentini and Puckett led the Flock with two hits apiece.

The Ducks and Skeeters close out their four-game set on Monday afternoon. Game time is slated for 3:05 p.m. EDT at Constellation Field. Right-hander Fernando Hernandez gets the start for the Ducks against Skeeters righty David Pauley.
